National Handloom Day: Boyanika holds fashion show on threads of tradition

Bhubaneswar: The Boyanika, which represents the primary weavers’ cooperative societies of Odisha, on Saturday organised an exclusive fashion show on threads of tradition at Ekamra Haat here to mark the State-level 9th National Handloom Day. The day is being celebrated throughout Odisha from 7th to 15th August.

Inaugurating the show, Principal Secretary of Handlooms, Textiles & Handicrafts Department Dr. Arabinda Kumar Padhee said, “This is an opportunity for each and every citizen to respect our age-old weaving culture & tradition and support the weaver artisans, who have carried the profession from generation to generation with their exceptional skill and creative ability. Handloom products of our State represent an inseparable art of our rich culture & tradition and act as a source of livelihood for millions of weavers engaged in this activity.”

The objective of the show is to generate awareness on the importance of Handloom Industry and its contribution to the socio-economic development of the country in general. Boyanika is showcasing the contemporary dresses for youth, apart from Sarees and other handloom materials. The function will certainly encourage the weavers to keep up their noble profession and inspire the young generation for the trade, sources said.

Among others, Principal Secretary of Skill Development & Technical Education Department Usha Padhee, Director of Textiles & Handloom Shovan Krishna Sahu, Director of National Institute of Fashion Technology, Bhubaneswar Rajesh Kumar Jha and Managing Director of Boyanika & Director of Handicrafts Department Pranati Chhotray were present.
