Bhubaneswar: Team India is all set to tour Ireland to play in a T20I series. However, head coach Rahul Dravid has been given rest for the tour. Moreover, VVS Laxman, who usually steps into Dravid’s shoes in such cases, will not be part of the tour.

In the absence of the two former greats, the Indian team will see former domestic stalwart Sitanshu Kotak taking up the mantle as the head coach. Kotak is presently the head coach of the India A team at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).

Kotak has the experience of coaching the India A team for two years. Ireland tour will allow him to work with some of the next generation of Indian players who could go on to be the future greats of the game.

As per reports, Kotak will be accompanied by Sairaj Bahutule as the team’s bowling coach.

Laxman was supposed to be the head coach of the Indian team on the tour of Ireland. However, his next task is to oversee a high-performance training camp near Bengaluru. The camp will be organised for three weeks. Hence, he will be unavailable for the Ireland T20Is beginning on August 18.
