Bhubaneswar: While the intensity of rain has decreased in Odisha, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday issued thunderstorm and lightning warning for several districts till Sunday morning.
Thunderstorm with lightning is likely at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Sundargarh, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts till 8.30 on Friday. There is also a forecast for light to moderate rain or thundershower at many places in Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam and at a few places in remaining districts of the state.
On August 27, yellow warning of thunderstorm and lightning has been sounded for one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Gajapati and Ganjam. Light to moderate rain or thundershower may also occur at a few places in South Interior Odisha, Gajapati, Ganjam and at one or two places in rest of Odisha.
While there is no weather warning for next two days, light to moderate rain may continue at a few places in southern districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada and Gajapati, and Mayurbhanj and Balasore.
The weather agency has again issue yellow warning of thunderstorm with lightning for one or two places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Balangir, Nuapada and Kalahandi on August 30. Light to moderate rain or thundershower may also occur at a few places in Interior Odisha and at one or two places in the coastal belt, it added.
Notably, Odisha has recorded 778.4 mm rainfall against the normal of 856.7 mm till August 26 this monsoon season. While one district has received excess rainfall, 11 are deficient and the rest 18 districts in the normal category.
