Kendrapada: Odisha Gramya Bank’s Batipada branch under Aul block in Odisha’s Kendrapada district saw a mad rush with lakhs of rupees from ‘unknown sources’ being credited to more than 40 bank accounts on Thursday.

According to sources, customers started thronging the bank after they received messages on their mobile phones about amounts ranging from several thousands of rupees up to Rs 2 lakh, being credited to the accounts. Some were seen to withdraw cash from their accounts. The bank authorities later temporarily suspended the withdrawal in view of the rush and suspicious source of the money.

Branch Manager Pratap Pradhan said that some money had been credited from Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima. “The customers had received money ranging from Rs 2,000 to Rs 30,000 but the sources is not clear. 15-20 people withdrew money till noon before it was paused,” he said.

Probe is on to ascertain the source of the money, he added.
