Bhubaneswar: Following SS Rajamouli’s RRR success at the Oscars, India has initiated the process of selecting its official entry for the 2024 Academy Awards. According to reports, movies like Balagam, The Kerala Story, Zwigato, and Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani are being considered.
The Oscar committee has commenced the evaluation process with multiple screenings in Chennai, and the announcement is anticipated by next week. According to the Hindustan Times, a 17-member committee led by filmmaker Girish Kasaravalli has been meticulously reviewing all the submissions during the Chennai screenings. The committee has received over 22 entries from across India.
A source with knowledge of the matter informed the leading daily that some of the films submitted to the Film Federation of India for Oscar consideration include titles such as Anant Mahadevan’s The Storyteller (Hindi), Music School (Hindi), Mrs Chatterjee vs. Norway (Hindi), 12th Fail (Hindi), Viduthalai Part 1 (Tamil), Ghoomer (Hindi), and Dasara (Telugu). The source also added that the list may see additions such as Vaalvi (Marathi), Gadar 2 (Hindi), Ab Toh Sab Bhagwan Bharose (Hindi), and Baap Lyok (Marathi).
With screenings starting in Chennai on September 20, the decision is anticipated to be announced by the end of this month.
