Bhubaneswar: Odisha capital saw a heartrending accident late last night as a speeding car rammed Bomikhal flyover and a nearby electric pole close to Santoshi Maa temple here.

According to sources, the accident took place around midnight when the driver of the car, coming from Rasulgarh, lost control over the vehicle due to bad road conditions. The occupant is said to be a doctor, working in a private hospital here. He was rescued by locals in a critical condition and immediately taken to Capital Hospital in an ambulance. He was later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack as his condition deteriorated.

People gathered around the mangled remains of the vehicle with its roof ripped off in the accident, this morning. Locals said that the car first hit the flyover and then the electric pole.

Some reports, however, suggest that the car was badly damaged after falling off the overbridge.

This came a week after a bike-borne youth died while another sustained critical injuries after falling off Bomikhal overbridge.
