Bhubaneswar: Odisha hockey star Amit Rohidas got into the scoresheet as India subdued defending champions Japan 4-2 on Thursday in the Asian Games men’s hockey championship at Hangzhou.
Rohidas scored the team’s third goal four minutes after half-time. Abhishek netted a brace (13th and 48th minute), while Mandeep Singh found the target in the 24th minute. Once they were 4-0 up, Indians let the foot off the pedal a bit to allow Japan score twice in the final five minutes.
It was Rohidas’ second goal in the tournament, having scored in the 16-0 drubbing of Uzbekistan four days ago.
India, with a tally of 6 points, are on top of Pool A having scored 36 goals and conceded 3 in three games.
They will face Pakistan and Bangladesh in their remaining league fixtures.
