Bhubaneswar: BJD leader from Puri and Former Odisha Assembly Speaker Maheswar Mohanty passed away in early hours of Tuesday during treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar where he was admitted last week after brain stroke.
The 67-years-old leader has represented the Puri assembly seat five times consecutively from 1995. He was the speaker of the Odisha Legislative Assembly from 21 MAY 2004 to 31 March 2008.
He also served as a Minister in Naveen Patnaik’s cabinet and served several portfolio like Panchayatraj, Tourism, Planning and Coordination.He was a laywer by profession.
