IndiGo launches direct flight from Jharsuguda to Bengaluru

Rourkela: Two bicycle riders died after being run over by a speeding car while crossing the road near Jharmunda village in Odisha’s Sundargarh district on Wednesday morning.The deceased have been identified as Kshirod Pruseth and Sambaru Sahu of Jharmunda.

According to sources, the accident took place when they were on their way to Badagaon on a bicycle for some work. The car, which was reportedly en route to Sundargarh from Rourkela, fled the spot after hitting the bicycle. But locals chased the vehicle and caught up with it near Jagatgarh. The driver was later detained by police.

Following the accident, tension ran high as irate locals placed the bodies on road and staged a blockade demanding compensation for the bereaved families, affecting vehicular traffic. Police later reached the spot and tried to pacify them.The flight will be of 2 hour and 5 minutes duration, according to the airline’ website.

The Airbus A320neo will take off from Veer Surendra Sai Airport in Jharsuguda at 12.50 pm on Wednesday and reach Bengaluru at 2.55 pm. The direct flight from Bengaluru commences at 10.15 am and arrives in the western Odisha town at 12.20 pm.

This comes 10 days after the launch of direct flights between Jharsuguda and Kolkata. “These new flights will further strengthen inter-state connectivity, making it easier for travellers to reach this significant industrial and business centre,” IndiGo earlier said in a statement.
