Night temp drops below 12°C in Odisha; depression over Bay likely by Nov 30

Bhubaneswar: The night temperature plummeted below 12 degree Celsius in Odisha in the last 24 hours, the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre informed on Tuesday.

While 10 place recorded below 15 degree Celsius, Koraput was the coldest at 11.8 degree Celsius followed by Kirei (12.3) in Sundargarh district , G Udayagiri (13.2) and Daringbadi (13.5) in Kandhamal, Rourkela (13.9), Sundargarh and Phulbani in Kandhamal at 14 degree Celsius, Jharsuguda and Angul at 14.6 degree Celsius and Keonjhar (14.8).

The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded temperature below 19 degree Celsius for the second consecutive days. The mercury hovered at 18.5 degree Celsius in Bhubaneswar while it was 18 degree Celsius in Cuttack.

Odisha has also been experiencing intermittent wet spells for the last few days. The weather agency has also forecast rain in some western and southern districts of the state till Wednesday morning.

Meanwhile, the low-pressure area moved nearly westwards and was over South Andaman Sea at 8.30 this morning. “It is likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression over southeast Bay of Bengal around November 30. Thereafter, it is likely to move northwestwards and intensify further into a cyclonic storm over southwest & adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal during subsequent 48 hours,” the MeT office said.

If the system intensify into a cyclone, it will be called Michaung, a name suggested by Myanmar. It will be the sixth such event forming in the Indian Ocean this year, compared to the customary four cyclones that occur in most years, and the fourth in the Bay of Bengal.
