New Delhi: The Delhi government will approach the Supreme Court against appointment of the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) chairman.

This was informared by Delhi Power Minister Atishi on Thursday during a press meet.

Atishi alleged that the Delhi government had recommended Justice Sangeet Lodha, a retired Judge of Rajasthan High Court, for the post of DERC chairman. But the Lieutenant Governor did not accept the recommendation and appointed Justice Umesh Kumar.

Atishi alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party does not want the Delhiites to get free electricity. “They want Delhi to become like Gurugram, Noida and Ghaziabad where people have to face electricity issues for hours,” she alleged.

She claimed that the cheapest electricity in the country is available in the national capital. During the previous regime, electricity prices used to go up every year but now people are getting electricity at a cheap price, and over 41 lakh families get free power.
