Cuttack: Celebrating the 75th year of its establishment, Orissa High Court on Sunday organised the first ever State Level Quiz for the Judicial Officers of Odisha in collaboration with QShala.
The quiz was organized in 3 phases- 2 Preliminary Rounds, 6 Zonal Rounds and the Grand Finale. At first, there were two online Preliminary Rounds common to all the 30 districts on 11th June, 2023 where 432 Judicial Officers of various cadres participated individually. The top 3 winners of each district formed the team to represent the respective district in the Zonal Rounds.
For the Zonal Rounds 6 zones were formed with 1 Zonal Headquarter in each zone. Each zone included 5 districts. The zonal rounds of Jeypore (Zone-1), Berhampur (Zone-2) and Sambalpur (Zone-3) were held on June 25 and the zonal rounds of Angul (Zone-4), Balasore (Zone-5) and Cuttack (Zone-6) were held on June 28. The 5 district teams of each zone competed among themselves in the respective Zonal Rounds at Zonal Headquarters.
The winning team of each zonal round participated in the Grand Finale held at Odisha Judicial Academy, Cuttack today in the presence of Dr. S. Muralidhar, Chief Justice and the Judges of the High Court of Orissa. The questions asked in the quiz were on the topics of Law, Politics & Social Studies from the lens of history, culture, music, movies, art and technology. The Koraput team won the Quiz competition while Gajapati and Sundargarh became the 1st and 2nd runners-up respectively.
While Mr. Raghav Chakrabarty, the Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of QShala was the Quizmaster in the Preliminary and the Zonal Rounds, Mr. Sachin Ravi, the Co-Founder of QShala was the Quizmaster in the grand finale. Prizes were distributed to the teams by Dr. S. Muralidhar, Chief Justice, Justice Sangam Kumar Sahoo and Justice Chittaranjan Dash in a function held after the grand finale. While sharing their experiences before the audience the Judicial Officers were found excited being part of the entire event.
In his welcome address, Justice Sangam Kumar Sahoo said the Judicial Officers are constantly required to enhance their knowledge in every field and the High Court has taken several initiatives such as provision of laptops with internet connectivity, provision of law journals and books, creation of case law portal etc to enable them acquire knowledge. He said the quiz was conceived by the Chief Justice to enhance the interest of Judicial Officers and urged the District Judges to form groups of Judicial Officers for discussion and sharing of information on regular basis.
Dr. S. Muralidhar, Chief Justice said while celebrating 75th year of the High Court of Orissa, a string of events have been organized, but the quizzes for the law students and the Judicial Officers have been the most enjoyable. He expressed satisfaction over the participation of good number of woman judicial officers. The Chief Justice expressed hope that such quiz competition will be organized every year and also shared his dream of seeing a quiz competition for judicial officers at the national level. He congratulated the winning teams and all the participants and thanked the team of QShala for preparing the interesting questions for the competition. The Chief Justice announced that the questions of the quizzes of law students and Judicial Officers would be published in the form of a booklet.
Mr. Sachin Ravi, the Quizmaster and the Co-founder of QShala said the initiative of the High Court of Orissa to organize quiz for the Judicial Officers is the first ever initiative by any judicial institution in the country.
