Woman killed by crocodile in Jajpur

Bhubaneswar: The human-animal conflict continues to remain unabated in Odisha with a fresh death being reported in crocodile attack in Patapur area under Bari block in Jajpur district on Wednesday.

The deceased has been Jyotsna Jena.

According to sources, the incident took place when Jena had gone to Birupa river to wash clothes.

While she was busy washing clothes, a crocodile suddenly attacked and dragged her into the water leading to her death on the spot. The video of the entire incident has been caught on camera.

After a frantic search, mutilated body of the woman was found on the banks of the river, sources informed.

It is worthwhile to mention here that, Kendrapara reported four deaths due to crocodile attacks.

Recently on July 28, an elderly man, identified as Amulya Das, from Pattamundai was killed in crocodile attack in Brahmani River.

On June 29, one elderly man, identified as Gangadhara Tarai of Ghagaradiha village, died in a crocodile attack.

One Ashutosh Acharya, a Class 5 student of Nimpur village under Pattamundai block in Kendrapara district, was allegedly dragged and killed by a crocodile on June 14.

Similarly, on June 21, a woman, identified as Sita Das from Hatiagadi village under Rajnagar block in the district fell victim to a similar attack in the district.
