IMD predicts heavy rain to resume from 29 September

Bhubaneswar: Heavy rain is likely to resume in Odisha from September 29 with the likely formation of a cyclonic circulation and its intensification into a low pressure area over eastcentral Bay of Bengal, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Tuesday.

“A cyclonic circulation is likely to form over north Andaman Sea and neighbourhood around September 29. Under its influence, a low pressure area is likely to form over north Andaman Sea and adjoining eastcentral Bay of Bengal during subsequent 24 hours. Thereafter, it is likely to move west-northwestwards with possibility of gradual intensification,” it said.

The weather agency has issued yellow warning of thunderstorm with lightning for one or two places in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Rayagada, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Khurda, Boudh and Angul districts till 8.30 am on Wednesday. Light to moderate rain or thundershower may also occur at a few places across the state.

While there is no warning for the next 2 days, light to moderate rain may continue in southern and north coastal Odisha.

On September 29, heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is likely at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Malkangiri and Koraput. Yellow warning of thunderstorm with lightning has also been issued for one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, Puri, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur.
