Bhubaneswar: Heavy to very heavy rain is likely to lash Odisha from Saturday under the influence of a well-marked low pressure area over Northwest Bay of Bengal, which is likely to move northwestwards towards north Odisha and adjoining West Bengal coasts during next 24 hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed.
“Isolated very heavy rainfall very likely over Odisha on September 30. Squally weather speed of 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph is also likely over South & adjoining Central Bay of Bengal, North Bay of Bengal,” the MeT office said in its morning bulletin.
While light/moderate fairly widespread to widespread rainfall/thunderstorm and lightning with isolated heavy rainfall may continue till October 3, it has also forecast squally weather speed of 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph over Northwest Bay of Bengal along and off North Odisha-Bengal coasts on October 1. The wind speed may decrease to 40-45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph over South, Central and Northwest Bay of Bengal along & off North Odisha-Bengal coasts on October 2 and Southwest & adjoining Westcentral and Northwest Bay of Bengal along & off North Odisha-Bengal coasts on October 3 and October 4.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into these areas.

Orange Warning
Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) may occur at a one or two places in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Bhadrak and Balasore.
Yellow Warning
Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is also likely at one or two places in Sundargarh, Deogarh, Dhenkanal, Sambalpur, Angul, Cuttack, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur and Khurda.
Thunderstorm with lightning may occur at one or two places in North Odisha, South coastal Odisha, Sonepur, Boudh, Kandhamal, Balangir and Kalahandi.
OCTOBER 1

Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) is likely at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Sundargarh, Deogarh Sambalpur Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sonepur and Balangir.
Yellow Warning
Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) may occur at one or two places in Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Boudh, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Bhadrak and Balasore.
OCTOBER 2
Orange Warning
Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) may occur at one or two places in Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj.
Yellow Warning
Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is also likely at one or two places in Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Sonepur, Boudh, Kandhamal, Angul, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Bhadrak and Balasore.
OCTOBER 3
Yellow Warning
Heavy Rainfall (7 to 11cm) may occur at one or two places in Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Bargarh, Balangir, Sonepur, Angul and Keonjhar.
While heavy rainfall may continue at isolated places in the state on October 4, the intensity of downpour is likely to decrease thereafter, it added.
The weather agency has also warned of waterlogging in low-lying areas and underpass roads, inundation of agricultural fields, occasional reduction of visibility causing traffic congestion in urban areas and damage to kutch roads and houses during the intense spells of rain. Farmers have been advised to postpone fertiliser/chemicals application in agricultural field and keep livestock at safe places.
