Sundargarh: With two more persons testing positive for scrub typhus on Friday, the total infected cases in Odisha’s Sundargarh district have gone up to 330.
Speaking to media on Friday, Niranjan Mishra, Director, Public Health said though the number of scrub typhus cases have been rising in the state, there was nothing alarming about. Stating that more cases have been confirmed due to alert actions taken by the government.
“Due to the government’s awareness campaign about the disease, the people are now about its symptoms. As a result, more people are coming forward for testing for the disease compared to previous years. As a result, more positive cases have come to light,” said Mishra.
Admitting that that the number of scrub typhus cases in the state has gone up this year, he said while it stood at around 1,500 last year, it has almost reached 3,000 this year. He reiterated that it was due to increase in sensistisation of the people and testing facilities across the state. More than 22,000 people have already tested for the disease this year, he added.
