Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Cabinet on Thursday decided to recommend the proposal for the inclusion of Mundari language in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution of India.
Inclusion of the “Mundari” language in the 8th schedule will benefit the Munda and Mundari tribes of the state, Chief Secretary P K Jena told reporters after the cabinet meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
It will be helpful in the preservation and promotion of the Mundari language and culture. The trend of shifting to other languages by the Mundari-speaking people will be regulated. It will also stimulate literary activity.
More literary activities like the publication of different categories of books will get momentum. The indigenous knowledge and practices of Mundari Mundari-speaking population will be preserved. The move will help open a new window for research and studies anchored around the preservation and promotion of the language.
The cabinet decision to recommend the inclusion of Mundari language in the 8th schedule of the Constitution will have no financial implication.
