Cuttack: Two policemen were seriously injured after being allegedly attacked with a sword by a retired defence personnel in Banki area of Odisha’s Cuttack district on Sunday.
According to preliminary information, Sub-Inspector (SI) Sambit Swain and constable Uttam Kar of Banki police station sustained injuries in the attack by the former jawan at Adimata Chhak in Harirajpur area of the district.
The incident took place when the police personnel had gone to arrest the accused, identified as Saroj Das, in connection with a similar offence allegedly committed by him in the past.
After being attacked by the former defence personnel with a sword, the two injured policemen sustained grievous injuries. The two were rescued by locals and rushed to the Banki Hospital for treatment.
The sub-inspector was later shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack as his condition deteriorated. Further details are awaited.
It may be noted here that the ex-jawan had earlier tried to unleash terror in the village by waving sword in the air, ransacked an ATM kiosk and attacked policemen who went to nab him.
According to reports, he has accused two people of duping him of his life savings on the false promise of getting a hyva truck. Earlier, in a complaint with Banki police station, Das had accused the two of cheating him to the tune of Rs 6 lakh.
He had alleged that the two cheated him with a second-hand truck instead of getting a new hyva and took away all his Rs 6 lakh.
