IND Vs PAK – www.publictrustofindia.com https://publictrustofindia.com Odisha English News Sun, 10 Sep 2023 13:44:25 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.9.4 Asia Cup: Ind Vs Pak match halted in Colombo due to heavy rain https://publictrustofindia.com/2023/09/10/asia-cup-ind-vs-pak-match-halted-in-colombo-due-to-heavy-rain/ Sun, 10 Sep 2023 13:44:24 +0000 https://publictrustofindia.com/?p=4322 Bhubaneswar: The India-Pakistan Super Four match in the Asia Cup has been temporarily halted due to heavy rain at the R. Premadasa Stadium here on Sunday. As of now, India are 147/2 in 24.1 overs, with captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill slamming 56 and 58 respectively.

Persistent rain had prevented a result when the two teams played in the league stage match in Pallekele on September 2. To avoid a washout of the India-Pakistan Super Four match, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) on Friday added a reserve day for Sunday’s match, which had a heavy rain forecast.

As per the revised playing conditions, if no more play happens on Sunday due to inclement weather, then the game will continue from the point of interruption with no overs lost. A minimum of 20 overs are needed to be bowled in both innings to achieve a result.

Brief scores:

India 147/2 in 24.1 overs (Shubman Gill 58, Rohit Sharma 56; Shaheen Shah Afridi 1-37, Shadab Khan 1-45) against Pakistan

While KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer, both middle-order batters rehabilitating from a thigh and a back injury respectively at the National Cricket Academy, have been declared fit for the Asia Cup, Jasprit Bumrah is returning to ODI cricket after a gap of more than a year having proved his fitness in the ongoing T20I series against Ireland. Tilak Varma and Prasidh Krishna also found a place in the squad, with Sanju Samson as the back-up player.

“Shreyas Iyer is completely fit, KL Rahul is having a niggle, That is why Sanju is travelling. We expect him to be fit, he is well on track. If not at the start of Asia Cup, may be by the second or the third game,” chief selector Ajit Agarkar said after the selection committee meeting in Delhi.

On Yuzvendra Chahal, who is missing from squad, Agarkar said: “You can’t fit in two wrist spinners and at the moment Kuldeep Yadav is ahead of him.”

Squad: Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, Prasidh Krishna, and Sanju Samson (back up).

The first match in the Asia Cup will be played between Pakistan and Nepal in Multan. India will play all their matches in Sri Lanka, beginning with the game against arch-rivals Pakistan on September 2 in Kandy. While a total of 13 matches will be played, the final is scheduled for September 17 in Colombo.

Fans book hospital beds ahead of India vs Pakistan ODI World Cup clash https://publictrustofindia.com/2023/07/22/fans-are-booking-hospital-beds-in-ahmedabad-ahead-of-india-vs-pakistan-odi-world-cup-clash-know-why/ Sat, 22 Jul 2023 13:46:38 +0000 https://publictrustofindia.com/?p=2483 Bhubaneswar: Ahead of the India vs Pakistan clash at the 2023 ODI World Cup in Ahmedabad, the prices of hotel rooms for a night in the city have shot up 20 times the normal fare. The astronomical prices and unavailability of rooms have led traveling fans to turn to a unique alternative: hospitals that provide breakfast and dinner.

According to a report in Ahmedabad Mirror, people have been contacting hospitals for full-body check-up and an overnight stay for October 15. The alternative serves twin purposes: taking care of lodging plus healthcare.

“Since it’s a hospital they are asking for full-body check-up and an overnight stay so both of their purposes are fulfilled – saving money on lodging and getting their health check-up done,” Dr Paras Shah, who works at a hospital in the city, told the publication.

“These people are ready for any, from deluxe to suite room, whatever is offered to them. Since we have limited rooms, we are being judicious in taking such advance bookings from NRIs because our priority is patient care. I have inquiries from my friends from the USA to stay in my hospital as I have both special and general rooms. Their aim is to watch the Indo-Pak match and also take advantage of the medical facilities, since they want to stay in the hospital, and not at my home,” he was quoted as saying.

Ahmedabad will host as many as five matches during the ODI World Cup including the tournament opener between defending champions England and Zealand. The final of the showpiece event will also be held in Ahmedabad, on November 19.
