The incident took place at Sikabadi village under the jurisdiction of Raikia police station in the district. The deceased was identified as Nirupal Mehta, who reportedly hailed from neighbouring Chhattisgarh.

According to sources, the man allegedly molested the girl finding her alone. On being informed by the girl about the shocking incident, the family members got infuriated.

The accused was then allegedly beaten to death by the minor girl’s father and paternal uncle. The two, identified as Krushnachandra Pradhan and Taranisen Pradhan, surrendered before the police at Raikia after committing the crime.

Nirupal, a concrete mixer machine operator, was engaged by a local contractor in road laying work in the district.

Raikia police have registered a case in this connection and launched an investigation. Further details are awaited.
