On September 8, a 22-year-old medical aspirant ended her life by jumping from the nineteenth floor of a tower in her society as she could not clear the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET)-UG examination. The incident was reported from at Greater Noida’s JP Aman Society in Sector 151. As per reports, an initial investigation revealed that the girl was unhappy after the declaration of her NEET result.
In a similar incident, a 19-year-old Chennai girl allegedly died by suicide in Tamil Nadu’s Ambattur after she failed to clear the NEET exam. The girl took the extreme step just hours after the results were declared.
Likewise, a medical aspirant allegedly died by suicide over the fear of NEET on June 30. The 19-year-old from Choolaimedu (Tamil Nadu) was preparing for the medical entrance examination.
Similarly, on April 30, two 17-year-old girls allegedly committed suicide in separate incidents after failing to clear Class 12 board examination in Balaghat and Tikamgarh districts of Madhya Pradesh.
As per the Union Ministry of Education, the government and the UGC have taken several initiatives to check the incidents of harassment and discrimination of students. University Grants Commission (Redressal of Grievances of Students) Regulations, 2019 have been formulated to safeguard the interests of the students.
The UGC has also notified ‘UGC Regulations on Curbing the Menace of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions, 2009’ and issued circular for strict compliance of the Regulations.
Further, the ministry has undertaken various steps such as peer assisted learning, introduction of technical education in regional languages for students in order to ease the academic stress.

Further, students, wardens and caretakers are sensitised to bring to notice the signs of depression in fellow students to the authorities so that timely clinical consultation may be provided.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik also expressed grief over his demise. “I am saddened to learn about the demise of Raimohan Parida. His sudden death has created a void in the industry. He had impeccable acting skills, he will always be remembered…,” tweeted Patnaik.
Actor Siddhanta Mahapatra, who worked with Raimohan in several films, remembered him as a ‘jolly’ person. He said, “It is hard to believe that such a jolly person, who has experienced several ups and downs in life, can think of doing something like this. He was highly successful in the profession.” Actor Sritam Das said it was unbelievable that Raimohan who had become a “hero from zero” could commit suicide.
Raimohan was very famous for his iconic villain role in Olly industry. He was playing negative roles in Odia and Bengali films, His villainous look, maniacal laughter and thundering dialogues, was bringing down the curtain on an actor who has left a legacy that will keep on inspiring actors for generations in his career spanning for over four decades.
Raimohan had acted in over 100 Odia films and 15 Bengali movies in his career, and was also a popular figure in the Odia Jatra (local theatre) world. Meanwhile, Rashmirekha’s father has lodged a complaint at Nayapalli police station in Bhubaneswar, alleging that his daughter was murdered by her boyfriend Santosh Patra.
Rashmirekha was found hanging at her rented house in Gadasahi area under Nayapalli police station in Odisha’s capital on June 18 night.
In his police complaint, her father Ranjan Ojha has alleged that Santosh killed Rashmirekha out of jealousy as he was not happy with her keeping links with her former boyfriend and television actor Raja.
Her brother Jeevan Ojha also alleged that the handwriting in the alleged suicide note found in the house was not her sister’s.
Rashmirekha’s family lives in Jagatsinghpur district’s Sanket Patna village. She had been living in Bhubaneswar for the last four-five years, acting in albums and television serials. After quitting acting, she was working in a finance company, where he met Patra.
Earlier, Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh had said that prima facie it appeared to be a case of suicide. “We are investigating this from all angles. The landlord informed that she had rented the house two months ago with her male friend. After obtaining the postmortem report, we will decide on the next step. We are also waiting for the reports of forensic analysis of mobile and laptop,” the DCP said.
The Commissionerate Police will be interrogating both Patra and Raja.
Raja’s name had popped up after an audio clip of a purported conversation between the actress and Santosh went viral on Monday.

Now, an audio clip, went viral on Monday, of the conversation between Rashmi and her male friend cum roommate Santosh Patra is giving hints towards the role of another youth, named Raja. Though the clip is unclear about how old it is, Santosh seemed unable to resist Raja, the third person.
From the audio clip, Rashmi was found to be annoyed with Santosh after the latter asked why Raja had blocked him. Rashmi said, why he had called him (Raja) and it was not required to create an unnecessary blunder. Moreover, Rashmi also termed Raja as a psycho and asked Santosh to stay away from him. To this, Santosh said, “I will show my power if he tries to confront me in Bhubaneswar Meanwhile, questions have been raised if Santosh and Raja had a faceoff over the matter.
In recent development regarding the death the Commissionerate Police has said that they will now interrogate the late actress’ boyfriend Santosh Patra and ex-boyfriend Raja .
The step has been adopted to educe more information on their relationship and the reason behind her ‘suicide’. As reported earlier, actress Rashmirekha Ojha, whose body found hanging on Sunday, was living in a rented house with her male friend Santosh Patra. The Father of the deceased had fingered towards Santosh for the death of his daughter as the latter had moved out a few days back and started living separately.
Earlier Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh had cleared that it is a clear case of suicide.
“As per the spot investigation, she (Rashmi) used her ‘odhni’ to hang herself. We had recovered a mobile, laptop and a handwritten note. As per the note, she was going through a severe mental depression. She has held none responsible for taking such an extreme step,” Singh had said during a presser.
“Even we haven’t received any complaint from the victim’s family in this regard. We are investigating this from all angles. As per the landlord, she had rented the house for two months with her male friend. The landlord hasn’t yet shared any other information or hasn’t filed any complaint. After obtaining the post-mortem report, we will decide on the next steps. Moreover, we are also waiting for the reports of forensic analysis of mobile and laptop,” Singh added.
Further, Singh said police are trying to connect with the friends and family members of the deceased to collect more information.
