The cities had recorded 19.1 and 17 degree Celsius the previous day.

Kirei in Sundargarh district recorded the lowest night temperature at 8.7 degree Celsius, followed by Koraput at 10.1 degree Celsius, Jharsuguda at 10.6 degree Celsius, Rourkela (Sundargarh) at 10.8 degree Celsius, Baripada at 11.6 degree Celsius, Keonjhar 11.8 degree Celsius, and Sundargarh 12.2 degree Celsius in the last 24 hours.

According to the MeT office, Hindol in Dhenkanal received the highest 47 mm rainfall, followed by Bhuban, also in Dhenkanal, at 27 mm, Paradip in Jagatsinghpur at 15.9 mm, Ghasipura in Keonjhar at 15.3 and Soro in Balasore at 15mm.

Due to trough in easterlies from South Interior Karnataka to east Vidarbha and anti-cyclonic circulation over Northwest Bay of Bengal in the lower levels, light rainfall at isolated places is likely in Odisha during next 3-4 days, it added.

Dense fog was also seen at Nayagarh and Balangir and shallow to moderate fog at Keonjhar and Bhawanipatna in Kalahandi.

Kirei in Sundargarh was the coldest for the third consecutive day at 8 degree Celsius, followed by Sundargarh at 9.6 degree Celsius, Koraput at 9.2 degree Celsius, Rourkela in Sundargarh at 9.8 degree Celsius and G Udayagiri in Kandhamal at 10 degree Celsius. Similarly, Jharsuguda and Ranital in Bhadrak recorded 10.2 degree Celsius, Phulbani in Kandhamal 11 degree Celsius and Keonjhar 12 degree Celsius.

The twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar 18 and 19.1 degree Celsius, respectively, 3.6 degrees above normal.

Dense fog was also seen in Cuttack, Balangir, Nayagarh and Daringbadi this morning. Bhawanipatna and Baripada witnessed shallow to moderate fog.

According to the weather agency, shallow to moderate fog may occur across the state during next 2 days. It has also forecast light rain at some places on January 17-18. On January 17, light rain may occur at one or two places in Bargarh, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, Sambalpur, Deogarh, and Mayurbhanj. Light rain is also likely at one or two places in Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Deogarh, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Balasore, and Bhadrak during the subsequent 24 hours.

The MeT office further said that there will be no large change in the night temperature at many places in the state during the next 4-5 days.

According to a vigilance release, she had demanded the illegal gratification from a complainant to submit enquiry report for conversion of agricultural land to homestead land in his favour. The entire bribe money was recovered from the accused and seized.

While a case under Section 7 of Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, had been registered against Choudhury at Rourkela Vigilance police station, simultaneous searches are on at two locations linked to her in Sundargarh district from disproportionate assets angle, it added.

This followed a visit by 5T Secretary VK Pandian’s visit to Sundargarh in March when he came to about the land acquisition problem for constructing a rail overbridge at Rajgangpur, while reviewing various development programmes in the district.

He then held discussions with the CM, who then decided that the state government would directly purchase the land, instead of acquiring those required for the ROB and speed up the construction work.

This rail overbridge will be constructed at Rajgangpur Mauza between Sonakhan and Kashanbahal stations.
